tim's induction

On the first day Tim took us to a park. We used Pentax film cameras to take pictures there of different shapes and patterns and objects in or around the park. We didn't use the dark room to develop these photo's, we used dark black bags as a mini dark room so then they aren't exposed to the light and not ruined. We put the film through small reels and into tubs, then used different liquids to develop, fix and finish the films, after we hung them into a cabinet to dry off and fully develop.
This is a picture of my film:

On the second Monday, we looked more closely at DLSR cameras, learning what all the different options were and what event you would use them in. In class, someone sat on a spinny chair and the other person would take a few pictures of that person spinning using different shutter speeds to see what the image would turn out like, we did this once without flash and then again without. After, we went outside and did the same thing but this time taking pictures of the traffic going past, using different shutter speeds and following the car with out camera to give the effect of the background being blurred out.

Today, we used the dark room to do a small copy of the films but onto developed photo paper, I used f11 and let it run for 4 seconds. This is how my copy turned out:

After this, we chose one picture that we really liked and did a light sample test on it, we chose a small section of one photo and put a small piece of photo paper there. Using a black piece of card we then covered one small section of the photo paper at a time. I used f16 and left it for 1 second. Doing this you can test which exposure would be more suited to the photo you have taken. This is what my sample piece looked like:

When we were happy with the sample, we could do a larger print of the picture with the exposure settings and f number we were happy with. For my larger print I used f11 and left it running for 4 seconds. This is how my large print looked:

Today in Tim's lesson, we looked at Alexander Rodchenko images, they were symmetrical or had lines and zig zag patterns in. We were then given a camera and walked around Leeds taking pictures trying to re-create those types of images.
Here are a few of the images I took:

Monday 8th October -
Today we used the studio and big lights to practise with different lightings and shadows. We used a light sensor to test the F number, moving backwards and forwards to change it. We started by putting the light at the front and seeing how the light looked on the person we was taking a picture of, then we tried moving it to the side to see what kind of shadows it would make.
After, we removed the soft box from the light and put it behind the person to make a backlight, this made their hair light up more.
