Intro Howard

24.09.12

Today we were in a room with sliver walls, the wall has a circle hole at the window which we then covered with a lens and then put translucent paper in front. This allowed us to view the outside image onto the translucent paper.

After this we then used the dark room to produce negative photo prints, we chose objects and placed them onto the photo paper then set the machine so it takes 4 seconds to take the picture. We then developed the photo in 3 different trays then washing and drying it at the end. We then put it through a drying machine and the print as finished. We learnt then that you can also produce positive prints, this means putting 2 shiny sides of the paper together and the colours that were black go white, and the white colours go black.
This is a picture of some of the developed pictures after they had soaked in the water.

My first print didn't turn out so well because the object I chose was glass, so it didn't pick up as well on the photo paper. This is a picture of my first attempt:
My second attempt developed more clear because I chose more opaque objects:

Howard was teaching us about Julia Margaret Cameron style photo's today, they're in black and white and are not focused very well. We had to use a 5"x4" Sinar camera to re-create these photo's in our class. We had to take pictures of each other in a Victorian kind of way.
This is a picture of the camera we used:

We set the camera up to F8 and ISO 6 then changed it to the ''T'' setting, then inserted black and white photographic paper using a double sided case. We then put the developed these prints using the dark room, they came out in negative but then we used the enlarger machine to re print them positive.
These are the pictures I took and developed:

Monday 8th October -
Today we used boxes with pin holes in to take a picture. We taped a piece of photo paper inside the box opposite the pin hole, we then closed the box and used black insulation tape to tape all the way around so no light got into the box and ruined the paper. We covered the pin hole with tape too until we found something we wanted to take a picture of, then removed the tape and left it there still for 3 minutes. After 3 minutes we put the tape back over the pin hole then took the box to the dark room and developed the photo using the developer, stop and fix chemicals then drying the photo. This print was negative, but then we made a positive print by putting the negative print face to face with some photo paper and putting it under the enlarger machine for 8 seconds. Then we developed it the same way.
